Vehicle Player Unit (VPU)

The Vehicle Player Unit (VPU) is fitted to the vehicle when it is used as part of the real-time Combat Training Centre (CTC). It provides the data communications and GPS reception for the vehicle to which it is attached. The VPU provides wireless communication with the Exercise Control System (EXCON) via remote relay stations (Comms Station) for status reporting together with geographic location.

Types of VPU

The VPU comprises of:

  • A processor with embedded control software to provide position reporting, area weapon vulnerability estimation, and communications.
  • A GPS unit to provide position location.
  • A data communications transceiver which enables radio communication to and from the EXCON.
  • An Optional Display unit for the display of status information, and EXCON messages.
