Player Units (PUs)

The "Player Unit" title is used to encompass both the infantry / Man Player Unit (MPU) and the Vehicle Player Unit (VPU).

The primary role of the Player Units (PUs) is to communicate exercise data between the player (field entity) and the Comms Station or Ground Relay Station (GRS).

The PUs provides all the resources needed for a personal or vehicle detector system to record and transmit position and event outcomes. The PU may include optional resources to display event information on an LCD, and provide voice communications, for Observer/Controller and Fire marker use.

The MPU and Antennae

MPU fits on to the personal system (harness) of the soldier as shown.

VPU is fitted to the vehicle as a stand-alone unit as shown below or it can be fitted as an integral part of the Vehicle Hit Indicator (VHI).

The radio transceiver in the PU listens to the GRS broadcasts of Global Positioning System (GPS) differential corrections, system configuration, area weapon simulation messages (such as a 'detonated mine' RF signals) and provides event messages e.g. move, fire, killed and reset.

The GPS receiver uses the mounted GPS antenna to receive satellite position data and together with the differential corrections broadcasted by the GRS achieves a position determination that provides an accuracy of +/-5m for 95% confidence.
