The NBC
system is used in conjunction with the MWLD harness to provide NBC
simulation.
The system uses in service gasmasks with filter canisters replaced by simulation
canisters. The simulation canister detects inhalation pressure, and
communicates breathing activity to the MWLD harness via the IR link. The
harness receives the gasmask signals and determines the appropriate
outcome, i.e., if mask was fitted within time frame allowed after the NBC
strike or if the soldier is wearing it and breathing through the canister,
then no action is taken. If the mask is not fitted within time frame, then
kill or injury of the harness results.
NBC Strikes are normally sent from EXCON, or by Umpire/Controllers, and
received by the harness via the player unit.
