The TOW
(Tube launched, Optically Tracked, Wire Command) simulator is supplied as
a complete Surrogate laser transmitter. Weapon signature is implemented by
optional M22 pyrotechnic actuator. The TOW simulator can be used with a
land vehicle, stationary tripod based, or a helicopter mounted TOW missile
system.
The operation requires the soldier to remain aiming at the target for the
actual flight time. The laser power increases with time, simulating the
increasing range traversed by the missile. The maximum flight time is 11
seconds, which represents 3750 m. The simulator also includes a Laser
detector module, which enables the transmitter to become a target in its
own right. If the transmitter is hit/killed, this information is
transmitted to the personnel system of the user via the association unit
link, and displayed on that systems display.
